This position is responsible for assisting the Recreation Department in planning, training, and implementation of the pool facilities and family or convention group recreational activities for the Hershey Lodge.

Job Duties (Duties marked with an asterisk are essential functions of this job):

  • Oversee daily activities and staff for pool operations, lifeguards, and recreation

  • Assist with training of new and existing staff in proper opening/closing of the pools and daily operations of the recreation facilities as well as department policies

  • Facilitate weekly in-service training for all lifeguards

  • Perform Lifeguarding and Hosting activities as needed

  • Ensure lifeguards adhere to Lodge safety standards

  • Maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and physical condition of the pool facilities

  • Review and coach staff on standard operating procedures

  • Schedule staff for rotations and meal breaks in accordance with operating needs and PA Child Labor Laws

  • Ensure that employees conform with the Lodge appearance standards at all times

  • Participate in weekly departmental staff meetings

  • Maintain accurate records, including accident and injury reports, chemical logs, weekly pool testing, and lab reports

  • Maintain uniform and pool supplies inventory

  • Maintain all department storage areas in a clean, clutter-free manner

  • Oversee the department's tracking of lost and found items to ensure that the housekeeping department receives all items in a timely manner.

  • Perform tasks and projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older on the date of applying

  • Must have a valid Driver's License

  • Minimum of 1 year lifeguard experience and 1 year work experience in recreation setting

  • Must obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification.

  • Must complete Jeff Ellis & Associates International Pool and Lifeguard Shallow Water Training Program.

  • This position is designated as Safety Sensitive and requires successful completion and passing of a pre-employment drug test.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and emergency procedures.

Job Demands:

  • Physical requirements include complete mobility and good physical conditioning, good hearing and vision, and ability to tolerate heat.

  • Must be able to push a maximum of 75 lbs.

  • Schedule typically is 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. but days can vary according to operational needs, including mornings, weekends, and holidays. Early shift begins at 7:00 a.m. and the late shift ends at 11:00 p.m.
