THE OPPORTUNITY AT CAMP SLOANE YMCA
Camp Sloane YMCA seeks a dynamic, mission-driven leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a historic YMCA camp that has shaped the lives of generations of youth and families through outdoor adventure, leadership development, and community building. The incoming CEO will partner with an engaged Board of Directors, a passionate staff team, and a strong network of alumni and supporters who believe deeply in Camp Sloane’s mission and legacy. The CEO will guide the organization through its next phase of growth and impact while preparing for its centennial celebration in 2028.
The Board seeks an innovative, strategic, and community-focused leader who can strengthen Camp Sloane’s reputation as a premier YMCA camp while expanding access to transformational outdoor experiences for youth. The CEO will build relationships with donors, alumni, and community partners while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the organization.
Ensuring the safety and well-being of young people is foundational to everything we do as a youth-serving organization. The CEO will champion a culture of safety and diversity that exceeds standards and reflects the YMCA’s commitment to protecting youth.

The Board believes its next CEO will demonstrate excellence and achievement in the following areas:
Fiscal Leadership and Improve Operating Performance: Provide strong fiscal leadership by engaging the board and staff in developing and executing an annual tactical plan that advances safe, relevant, and sustainable operations. Oversee organizational performance by proactively addressing challenges, forecasting future needs, and directing day-to-day activities, while using high-level financial analysis to guide decision-making. Lead the organization toward balanced or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions, controlling costs, and implementing effective stewardship strategies, while empowering department leaders to achieve sound financial management.
Advance Camp Sloane YMCA’s Strategic Plan: Work effectively with key leadership staff and board to advance the current strategic plan that addresses the needs of Camp Sloane and those served, including defined organizational strategies, a clear implementation plan with deliverables, and measurable goals.
Lead and Steward Camp’s Fundraising Efforts: Develop and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan that positions Camp Sloane YMCA as a leading nonprofit organization by engaging camper parents, volunteers, staff, and donors. Identify and pursue opportunities for successful capital fundraising while advancing the YMCA’s effectiveness and impact in annual giving and endowment growth.
Continue to Build and Lead a High-Performing Team: Develop and implement a robust talent development strategy that fosters a supportive, inclusive, and culturally competent workplace. Recruit, develop, and retain a diverse team aligned with the needs of Camp Sloane's campers and guests. Cultivate a high-performance culture characterized by collaboration, shared purpose, and continuous learning.
Facility and Maintenance Development, Capital: Ensure all camp facilities are clean, safe, and fully operational. Plan and execute comprehensive facility management, encompassing ongoing maintenance, repairs, infrastructure upgrades, and strategic development. Implement preventative maintenance and expansion strategies to ensure long-term viability and a safe, efficient environment for members, program participants, and guests.
ABOUT CAMP SLOANE YMCA
Founded in 1928, Camp Sloane YMCA is a historic YMCA camp located in the scenic northwest corner of Connecticut. Nestled in the Berkshire foothills along Lake Wononpakook, the camp provides a beautiful natural setting where young people build confidence, develop leadership skills, and form lifelong friendships.
Camp Sloane offers residential and day camp programs that help youth unplug from technology and connect with nature while learning teamwork, resilience, and independence. Generations of campers have experienced transformative summers at Camp Sloane through activities such as boating, ropes courses, climbing tower, arts, athletics, and outdoor exploration.
The camp serves youth ages 6–15 and emphasizes leadership development through programs such as Counselor-in-Training and teen leadership initiatives. Through financial assistance and donor support, Camp Sloane strives to ensure that all children have access to the life-changing camp experience. As the organization approaches its 100th anniversary in 2028, Camp Sloane YMCA continues to build on its legacy while preparing for the future.

SALARY, BENEFITS, & CRITERIA
Salary Range:
$130,000 to $175,000 annually
The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $175,000, commensurate with experience. Camp Sloane YMCA offers a competitive benefits package, including access to a modern four-bedroom home on the camp property, should the successful candidate choose to reside onsite.
Residency Expectation
A modern four-bedroom family home with generous private grounds is available for the incumbent of this role on a full-time basis. Camp Sloane is also open to considering a hybrid living arrangement, provided the CEO resides within a reasonable commuting distance of camp and can meet the role’s operational requirements. Significant presence during the summer season is expected, along with regular year-round engagement with the camp property, staff team, and broader community.
