Position Description: The Shipley School is looking for ASSISTANT COACHES for ALL SPORTS for ALL SEASONS. An Assistant Coach is integral to the development of our student-athletes as they strive towards achieving their full potential and a continued love for the sport. In this role, an assistant coach will support the Head Coach in organizing and executing practice and game plans. In some instances, our assistant coaches may have opportunities to lead off-season training programs and camps.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Follows and upholds policies and mission statement of The Shipley School
  • Contribute to the planning practice sessions and competitions
  • Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for development and athletic achievement in the sport
  • Travel to and from off-site locations (practice or contests) with student-athlete
  • Recruit student-athletes of all ages for application to Shipley
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship and maintain appropriate conduct towards the student-athletes, opposing team, officials, spectators, etc.
  • Ensure a positive environment free of hazing, harassment, bullying and intimidating language and behaviors - aligned with our Community Commitment.

Qualifications:

  • Prior coaching experience in the sport, experience as a competitor is preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport at the high school level
  • Prior experience working in an educational setting is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to foster a positive team spirit as well as individual skill improvement
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule that includes some nights and weekends
  • Ability to be outside for prolonged periods of time in a variety of weather conditions
  • First Aid and CPR training - or have the ability to be trained
  • Ability to drive a 9 passenger van

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Current nationally recognized Personal Training Certification or a bachelor's degree in the field
  • Certification reimbursement available for non-certified applicants
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification required
  • Approved Personal Training Certification Required
  • Desire to transform lives through educating members on health and wellness topics
  • Understand principles of physical fitness and proper exercise technique
  • Possess excellent customer service skills
  • Possess or be willing to learn sales skills
  • Ability to self-promote and network
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing

Rate of pay: $16.75-$23.00. Final compensation is based on factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.

Essential Responsibilities

• Attend and actively participate in all training as assigned
• Leads energizing, fun, safe programs, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish established department goals and KPI's.
• Leverage available technology to enhance client results and experience.
• Actively build client base and meet established retention goals.
• Maintain timely and effective communication with the client including but not limited to scheduling session count and follow up.
• Design and demonstrate exercise programs to minimize injury and promote fitness.
• Monitor and assess client progress, provide motivation, keep accurate records of completed sessions.
• Must have a good working knowledge of general exercise principles up to and including physical limitations, muscle groups, motivational skills, and contra-indicated exercises.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to serve a diverse community.
• High school diploma or equivalent
• CPR & First Aid Certified
• Bachelor's Degree in exercise science or related field or nationally recognized personal trainer certification from NCCA. ACSM, ACE, ISSA, NASM or NSCA preferred, but others accepted as deemed appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Multi-lingual skills
• NCCA certification
