POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational success of assigned YMCA branch. This role drives mission impact through effective staff leadership, community engagement, program quality, and financial sustainability.

The Executive Director fosters a culture where staff and members feel they belong and can thrive, while advancing the YMCA’s values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides direct supervision to 4 leadership staff and oversees all branch/program employees.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in operations, nonprofit, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in staff leadership, financial management, and program oversight
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills 

Preferred

  • YMCA experience
  • Experience leading multi-site operations
  • Fundraising and community engagement experience
Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership & Organizational Impact

  • Provide visionary leadership aligned with YMCA mission, strategic plan, and community needs.
  • Develop and execute branch or program strategies that drive membership growth, program expansion, and community impact.
  • Lead change initiatives and continuous improvement efforts. 

Financial Development & Stewardship

  • Develop, manage, and achieve annual operating budgets and financial goals.
  • Drive revenue through membership, programs, and partnerships.
  • Lead or support fundraising efforts, including annual campaigns and donor engagement.
  • Ensure responsible fiscal management and resource allocation. 

Staff Leadership & Culture

  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing, diverse staff team.
  • Provide direct supervision to leadership staff and ensure effective performance management practices.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, engagement, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Model YMCA values in leadership behaviors and decision-making. 

Program Quality & Operations

  • Ensure high-quality programs that are safe, impactful, and aligned with YMCA standards.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including facility, staffing, and program delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, licensing, and risk management requirements. 

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Serve as the primary ambassador of the YMCA within the community.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with schools, community organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Communicate the YMCA’s mission and impact to diverse audiences. 

Regional Advisory Council - Volunteer Development

  • Partner with advisory council to advance YMCA goals.
  • Support volunteer engagement and leadership development.
